Trance camp is an experiential workshop for those interested in exploring trance and its relevance to creativity and change. Trance is seen primarily as a naturalistic learning state that occurs from within, not an artificial state created or controlled by an outside “hypnotist”. Trance camp teaches skills for cultivating these inner states for purposes of improved health, happiness, healing, and helpfulness to others.
Trance Camp is open to those seriously interested in generative personal change and altered states of consciousness.. It is not a workshop for receiving personal therapy or learning to do therapy with others; it is an experiential community for learning how to experience and utilize non-pathological, generative states of consciousness. It is not about manipulating others, but rather about how to connect and join with self and others in deep ways that allow new possibilities. In this regard, the workshop integrates the use of trance with other consciousness-enhancing tools such as meditation, Buddhist psychology, the martial art of aikido, and Dr. Gilligan’s “self relations” approach. It sees each trance as an “experiment in consciousness,” and shows how trance skills can allow those experiments to lead to many new patterns. The goal is to learn how to create a Generative Self capable of transforming one’s life in many powerful ways.
“Trance camp” was aptly named by previous participants who felt the training to be a like an amazing and timeless “summer camp” where people from many different cultures and backgrounds gather to enjoy a safe and intensive transformational community experience. Participants report profound and meaningful changes that extend far into the future. We hope to see you there!
This year’s “Trance Camp” is devoted to the theme of the Hero’s Journey, which is a beautiful metaphor for how to connect through one’s deepest self, into the world, to live a deeply meaningful life. Week 1 is about finding that inner connection; Week 2 is about using that connection to transform one’s reality; Week 3 is about returning into the world to support others on their hero’s journey.
Special Note: These courses are for therapists, coaches, and individuals sincerely interested in exploring trance for generative change. They are deep explorations of how reality is created via various trance processes, and how such realities may be transformed and improved. The main emphasis is on how to promote self-generativity and self-change in self and others, rather than one person “doing something” to another.
Trance camp is relaxing, invigoration, transforming, integrative. In addition to the classes with Dr. Gilligan, there are various evening events with African drumming/dancing, other musical adventures, and special presentations. Come and learn from one of the masters.
